The 12:30 AM Notification
It was 12:32 AM. The screen of my phone lit up, and a familiar WeChat notification broke the midnight silence.
It was a regular client living in Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon. At this hour, I figured the “cravings” for Shenzhen food must have hit hard. Sure enough, I opened the chat to find a screenshot of a mouth-watering “Tan Yu” (Grilled Fish) combo set.
But this wasn’t just a simple snack run. The order was a feast.
From Tan Yu: Fresh Green Pepper Grilled Fish (boneless, with asparagus lettuce and potatoes).
From Ke Yu (Hakka Cuisine): Stuffed Tofu, Braised Pork, and Three-Cup Duck.
“Do you have runners available tomorrow?” the client asked.
Even though I was half-asleep, I smiled. This is the reality of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong living circle. People are willing to plan their logistics at midnight just to ensure they get that specific taste of home the next day.
Custom Pricing: Why the Fee Changed?
I replied first thing in the morning at around 7 AM with a quote.
The client was a bit puzzled initially. “Why is it more expensive than last time?” he asked, adding a laughing-crying emoji. He remembered a previous rate of ¥n (for door-to-door) or ¥m (for subway station meetup).
This is where the flexibility of our Shenzhen-Hong Kong Errand Services comes into play, but it requires clarity. I explained:
- Multiple Pickups: This order involved two different restaurants (Tan Yu + Ke Yu). Our runner had to travel to two locations in Shenzhen to collect the food.
- Door-to-Door Service: The delivery was to the 16th floor of a residential building in Tai Kok Tsui (Harbour Green), not a simple handover at an MTR station.
Once I clarified that the lower price he recalled was for a “subway station meetup,” he understood immediately. “Ok,” he replied, and the Alipay transfer came through seconds later.
For full transparency on how we calculate these costs, you can always check our Food Delivery & Takeout Pricing Scheme.
Mission Accomplished in Tai Kok Tsui
With the order confirmed, our logistics chain went into action:
- Afternoon: Runner collects fresh food in Shenzhen.
- Border Crossing: Swift customs clearance to maintain food temperature.
- Last Mile: Direct delivery to the client’s apartment in Kowloon.
By 6:43 PM, our runner confirmed the handover was complete—perfectly timed for the client’s requested 7:00 PM dinner.
I sent a message: “Enjoy your meal!”
The client replied with a “fist and palm salute” emoji (a sign of respect and thanks).
It’s satisfying to know that a family in Hong Kong is enjoying a hot, authentic Shenzhen dinner because of our coordination.
